Anime on DVD has posted a few datails about the upcoming Limited Edition version of the R.O.D. TV box. According to Chad Kime of Geneon, "The LE version will not be a traditional Artbox. Instead, it will be a faux-leather book with DVD trays instead of pages with room for the rest of the ROD the TV series. Both the LE DVD Book (as we will refer to it) and the regular edition will ship with limited edition two-sided pencil boards that feature the artwork from the R2 cards. ... At this exact second, I'm not sure if there are different pencil boards in each set, but I'll double check with the producer. This packaging is not like a digi-pack and will be a first in the industry and will be foil stamped with the series logos."

It appears that Nenene is going to be in the new Read or Dream TV series, according to the official site. It showed her in the character section, looking a little bit older than how she looked in Read or Die. I've gotten the little blurb translated about her, it says:

Sumirekawa Nenene
22 years old. Female. Author. When she was 13 years old, she had a debut in a movie called, "Kimi wa Boku o Shitteru" ("You Know Me"). She is now a bestselling author. She has a very high pride which causes her to be stubborn at times, but she is very funny. The way she talks is eccentric. She has a deeper side though, and she gets sad and blames everything on herself. This is the type of person she is.

An article in NewtypeUSA gives more information about the new Read or Dream series. Part of the article follows:

Great New Spy Action! The new agents are three beautiful sisters.

The central character in the OVA R.O.D is a young bookworm who has the special ability to manipulate paper. The new TV anime revisits the same themes as the OVA, with some new main characters--three beautiful sisters.

Hideyuki Kurata, artist of the original manga, describes the girls: "Michelle, the oldest loves to flirt and is obsessed with following each new fad. Maggie always looks like she's lost in deep thought, but really she's just in a daze. And Anita is selfish, stubborn and hates books more than anything else. They get on each other's nerves when they're together, but their faults are part of their charm."

Mr. Kurata likes girls with glasses, so why don't any of these three wear them?

"I decided not to have these girls wear glasses because they just didn't look right on them--not everyone looks good in glasses. It would be an insult to glasses and the girls who wear them. Glasses are a bond that link one person to another."

Our final question, Mr. Kurata: why doesn't Yomiko, the main character of the previous series, appear in the new series?

"She doesn't? Who told you that?"

Guess we'll have to watch the show and find out!

So, this could possibly mean that Yomiko will be back!! For the full article, go to the Read or Dream Misc. Section.

Read or Dream TV Series Announced The official Read or Die Japanese homepage is now headed by an image that confirms plans for an R.O.D. TV series. The image seems to suggest that the anime will be an adaptation of the current Read or Dream manga serial, a sequel to the Read or Die manga and anime OAV series. According to Moon Phase, the new TV animation will be produced by the same staff that created the fan favorite OAV series from last year.

The new R.O.D anime will be a TV series. You can see the silhouettes of three figures on the main page of the official R.O.D site. They seem to me to fit the three Paper Sisters from the new Read Or Dream manga in monthly manga magazine Ultrajump. The figure on the left looks like the eldest sister Michelle with her long wavy hair, Anita would be the youngest sister in the middle with her hair in buns, and (if I'm right) Maggie's the tall, short-haired sister on the right. Based on the first chapter of the manga, that would mean no Yomiko... More information will be posted to the official site on 10 December 2002. UPDATE from Moonphase: it seems from the December 2002 issue of Ultrajump that the main staff from the original OVA series will return, including director Masunori Kouji, script by Kurata Hideyuki and character designs by Ishihama Masahi based on designs by Uon Taraku. Further, manga is stated to be by Ayanaga Ran. This seems to confirm that the anime will be about the three Paper Sisters.

On October 19th Ultra Jump Magazine will feature the first installment of a new Read or Die sequel entitled "Shin Read or Die" or "Read or Dream." It is the sequal to the Read or Die manga, but Shin Read or Die will not feature Yomiko Readman as the principal character, but rather new characters from the Division of Special Operations of the Royal British Library.
Ran Ayanaga will draw the manga, while Hideyuki Kurata will do the story.
Meanwhile, it isn't known if the new R.O.D. anime is going to be based on Shin R.O.D. or if it will be a completely original story.

Read Or Die - Coming June 2003: Bibliophilic substitute teacher - and part-time operative for the Special Operations Force of the British Libraries - Yomiko Readman becomes entrenched in a plot for world domination revealed through writings in the margins of certain rare books. Anime Expo 2002 attendees should look for Read or Die creator Hideyuki Kurata, director Koji Masunari, and character designer Masashi Ishihama, as all will be special guests at the Expo.
