Character Information: Genjyou Sanzon (Xuanzang)
Japanese: 玄奘三蔵
Seiyuu: Hiroki Takahashi
Genjyou is one of the I-jin. With the hand of the Sekai Ijin Gundan (世界偉人軍団) (Worldwide Great Man Cooperation), the high priest is revived. He possesses the staff, also called nyoibou (如意棒), of Son Goku (孫悟空), and Cho Hakkai's (猪八戒) flame throwing ability.
Name
The Read or Die I-jin version of Genjyou seems to be the Chinese fictional character combined with his three gaurdians--he possesses their powers and abilities.
Genjyou Sanzon is based on the fictional character Xuanzang (玄奘, WG: Hsüan-tsang), the central character of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West (西遊記), is partly modelled after the historical Tang dynasty Buddhist monk of the same name, whose life was the book's inspiration; the real Xuanzang made a perilous journey on foot from China to India (and back again) to obtain Buddhist Sutras.
The Bodhisattva Guān Yīn, acting on the instructions of the Buddha, finds three willing disciples for the monk, who agree to help Xuanzang in order to atone for their sins:
Son Goku (孫悟空): The monkey king Sūn Wùkōng (孫悟空, also Monkey)
Cho Hakkai (猪八戒): The pig-monster Zhū Bājiè (豬八戒, also Pigsy, or Pig)
Sha Gojyo (沙悟淨): The river-monster Shā Wùjìng (沙悟淨, also Friar Sand, or Sandy)
For most of Journey to the West, he bears the nickname Sānzàng (三藏 San-tsang), a play on words connecting his real name to the "three baskets" of the Pali canon ("sānzàng" in Chinese).
